Familia Aeterna - Intermediate
Instructor: Victor Kaplun
Course Details
Description
Every user of LLPSI (Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata) I've talked to agrees that the jump from Familia Romana to Roma Aeterna is jarring (particularly from ch. XLI) . This is known as the intermediate gap, and in negotiating it, guidance from an experienced instructor is perhaps more important than at any other time in one's Latin journey.
This intensive course picks up with ch. 32 of LLPSI: Familia Romana and proceeds to the first part of LLPSI: Roma Aeterna. It is geared towards well-motivated learners ready to approach intermediate-level, chiefly non-original, texts.
The course also serves as an excellent way from passive knowledge to the active use of Latin. It will be taught through guided reading and discussion, with a lot of Latin-to-Latin rephrasing and next to no English. Grammar will be taught and discussed in Latin, and the learners' vocabulary will be continuously expanded through the use of synonyms, antonyms, proverbs, collocations and descriptive tasks.
