Seneca's Greatest Hits Vol. 1: For Speakers - Intermediate

from $200.00

Instructor: Andrew “Andreas” Morehouse

Description

This is a Latin reading course for students who are ready to spend time with authentic Latin prose, but still want support along the way.

In this course, we will read selected passages from Seneca slowly and carefully, with attention to both language and meaning. Seneca is one of the most rewarding Latin authors for intermediate students: his prose is clear and memorable, with great use of
sententiae for punchy points of wisdom. Some questions he explores and we will explore are the following: How should we spend our time? What does it mean to live well? How should we face fear, anger, grief, friendship, study, death, and change?

Students will build confidence reading Latin prose by working through Seneca’s vocabulary, sentence structure, rhetorical style, and philosophical ideas. The goal is not to rush through large amounts of text, but to become stronger, more independent readers while enjoying the richness of Seneca’s Latin.

This course is best suited for students who have completed beginning Latin or have some experience reading adapted or authentic Latin and want a guided path into more substantial prose.
