Novice Latin Speaking: Activate your Latin!

from $200.00

Instructor: Andrew “Andreas” Morehouse

Description

This is a spoken Latin course for people who have studied Latin before, but have little or no experience actually speaking it.

This is not a course for true beginners, i.e. those that have never studied Latin. It is for false beginners, rusty spoken-Latinists, grammar-trained students, teachers, and returning learners who know more Latin than they may feel ready to use.

This course is designed to help bridge the gap between the world of Spoken Latin and Latin on the page to facilitate stronger reading skills.

In each class, we will facilitate co-creating a stronger mental representation of Latin and take Latin you already know and make it active through guided conversation, listening, question-and-answer, simple narration, personalized discussion, and lots of supported practice. There will be light amounts of homework comprising of podcasts, YouTube videos, and other media each week to help provide examples and structures for expression in class.

The goal is not to speak perfectly. The goal is to become comfortable using Latin in real time: understanding, responding, asking questions, describing, choosing words, and communicating without translating every sentence in your head.

This course is especially well suited for people who have learned Latin through traditional methods and want a gentle, structured first step into spoken Latin.
