Every Day Matters: Conversational Ancient Greek - Intermediate

from $200.00

Instructor: Roberto Salazar

Course Details

Description

What did people in antiquity actually say to each other in Greek? How did they greet a friend, ask a question, push back in a discussion, or politely challenge someone’s claim?
This course introduces learners (lower-intermediate to intermediate) to the phraseology and conversational idiom of classical Greek prose, drawing primarily from Plato, Xenophon, and later writers such as Lucian. We will focus on the practical language that runs through their dialogues and narratives: common expressions, everyday turns of phrase, and the small rhetorical moves that structure real conversation.
Each session works with short, carefully simplified passages and micro-dialogues presented in easy Attic Greek, designed to reinforce high-frequency vocabulary and natural idiomatic patterns. Through repetition, paraphrase, and guided conversation, students gradually become comfortable using these expressions actively.
The aim is simple: to help learners with some prior Greek experience become more fluent and confident with the living idiom of the language—so that Greek prose begins to feel less like a puzzle and more like a conversation.
