Description

Curious about Latin, but not sure where to start? This course is designed especially for you.

Latin for Extreme Beginners is a gentle, structured introduction to the Latin language for adults with little or no prior experience. Over eight weekly one-hour sessions, we will explore the foundations of Latin in a supportive, low-pressure environment. This course is intended for those who are genuinely interested in the language and want to begin engaging with it in a meaningful way, without prior background or preparation.

Together, we will:

  • Learn how Latin works, including its basic grammar and sentence structure

  • Become familiar with core vocabulary and essential forms

  • Gain some experience reading and understanding simple Latin

  • Practice speaking and hearing Latin in accessible, guided ways

  • Explore the historical and cultural context of the language

  • Become acquainted with high-quality resources for continuing Latin study after the course

This course is not designed to produce fluency in eight weeks, but to provide a clear overview of the language and a strong, realistic starting point. By the end of the course, participants will have a foundational understanding of how Latin functions and the confidence to continue learning independently or in more advanced courses.

Classes will meet once per week for one hour over Zoom. Each session will combine explanation, guided practice, and opportunities for questions and discussion.

This course is ideal for adults who:

  • Have always wanted to learn Latin but never had the chance

  • Are interested in language, history, literature, or etymology

  • Want a structured and supportive introduction

  • Are considering further Latin study and want to begin with a solid foundation

No prior experience is necessary—only curiosity and a willingness to engage.
