Course Details
Description
Want to hear about wizards flying through the sky, giant spectral hounds, and demonic spirits turning coat? This class will read stories about these things and more, written by the great scholar Ælfric of Eynsham, told in his series of tenth-century homilies. His Old English prose is both entertaining and easy for beginners, and over the course of April we will read through some of the most interesting ones together. Ræd mid us!
Classes will be at 11:00 AM Saturdays, as two 1-hour sessions with a 15 min break in between. This class will consist of guided readings, so familiarity with Old English grammar is a prerequisite, but no further experience is required.

for students, caretakers, or anyone stretched right now.
Standard — USD 280 total ($35 /hour)
full-value rate; covers the cost of small-group instruction.
Sustainer — USD 350 total (Standard Tier total + 25%)
full-value rate & your contribution to our LAC scholarship fund. Thank you!
Auditor Option
This course offers an auditor option at half the regular tuition. Auditors receive access to all class recordings and may attend live sessions as observers.
Because live sessions are designed to create a safe, interactive space for active language use, auditors who attend live are asked to remain muted during class, aside from greetings or when explicitly invited by the instructor. This helps preserve the flow of the lesson and supports enrolled participants in taking linguistic risks.
If you’re interested in active participation, discussion, or feedback, we recommend enrolling as a full participant.
