Active Latin from Scratch with LLPSI (Americas) - Novice to Intermediate
Instructor: Victor Kaplun
Course Details
Description
This course is designed primarily for two categories of learners:
1) those who have the grammatical fundamentals of Latin under their belt and are able to translate even AP-level texts, but realise that what they're still missing is the ability to read, understand, and use the language with fluency;
2) those with good meta-linguistic knowledge and experience in learning foreign languages, being fluent in at least one, who are ready for the challenge of bringing a dead language back to life.
At the end of the course, you will acquire the foundational ability to understand Latin as Latin, drastically reducing the difficulty of any future university-level course. While you might not reach Cicero's level of fluency, you will be able to sight-read and discuss lower-intermediate-level Latin texts and be ready to approach the better-quality material for extensive reading, such as Pugio Bruti or Ad Alpes.
In this course, we will be using the unrivalled LLPSI: Familia Romana, starting with the first chapter. The course is taught through guided reading and discussion, with copious explanations in the target language and a minimum of translation. You will be using the language to learn the language from the get-go. Grammar will be taught primarily in Latin as well, with elaboration in English as necessary.
