Annoying Greek People, Part Two : More Theophrastus! - Intermediate to Advanced

from $200.00

Instructor: Roberto Salazar

Course Details

Description

Have you ever wondered what really got under the skin of ancient Athenians? Or better yet—have you ever wanted to master the fine art of being insufferable in classical Attic?
This course will give you that chance to keep exploring these questions. But beware, as you might know from last time —it’s not as easy as it sounds! The Athenians had countless ways to be a nuisance, and at least twice as many Greek words to describe them.
Through a selection of texts from Theophrastus’ Characters, different from those studied in part 1, we will dive into the world of bothersome personalities, discussing the texts in Ancient Greek. Each session will focus on a specific trait — ἀπόνοια, ἀρέσκεια, δεισιδαιμονία, βδελυρία… — enriching our vocabulary and phraseology along the way. If time allows, we’ll also engage in exercises and drills to enhance fluency in spoken Attic.
