Ancient Greek Fluency Exercises - Intermediate to Advanced
Instructor: Roberto Salazar
Course Details
Description
Thinking in Ancient Greek is hard. Speaking it can be worse. But even when reading a page it can feel like it takes forever just to finish a sentence. One reason is that, as modern language speakers — especially of non-inflected languages — we aren’t used to letting syntax unfold on its own terms. Our instinct is to look for an easy way out: to translate, to shortcut, to flatten. This course is designed to break that habit and train you to experience Greek as it actually works.
We’ll focus on some of the trickiest structures — indirect statement, participial clauses, and relative clauses — but treat them not as abstract grammar points, rather as living tools of expression. Through rapid-fire drills, paraphrasing, and spoken re-composition, you’ll practice holding the sentence in Greek, allowing meaning to emerge naturally without jumping back into your native language. Over time, you’ll learn to hear, understand, and produce these forms with confidence.
Think of it as a workout for your fluency: intense, practical training that pushes you past translation and into real, active command of Ancient Greek.
